Our Safeguarding Framework
Box to Box Academy follows The FA's safeguarding guidance, recognised best practice and the England Football safeguarding standards. The welfare of the child comes before sporting performance, selection, commercial interests or reputation.
Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility. Any concern about a child's safety, welfare or the conduct of an adult must be taken seriously and reported promptly.

Our Commitment
- Coaches and relevant staff hold the appropriate current FA Enhanced DBS checks for their roles.
- Coaches complete relevant FA safeguarding training and are expected to keep their knowledge current.
- The academy promotes The FA Respect programme and expects football to remain positive and enjoyable for everyone.
- Clear codes of conduct apply to players, parents, carers, spectators, coaches and staff.
- Concerns are handled sensitively, recorded appropriately and escalated where necessary.

Who This Policy Covers
- All players and young people under the age of 18.
- Parents, carers, family members and spectators.
- Coaches, employees, contractors and volunteers.
- Trials, weekly coaching, one-to-one sessions, matches, events and academy activities.
- Photography, video, social media, transport and digital communication organised in the academy's name.
Safer Recruitment and Coaching Standards
- Roles involving children are assessed for safeguarding risk.
- Appropriate identity, reference and criminal record checks are completed where required.
- Coaches are expected to hold suitable qualifications, safeguarding knowledge and first-aid competence for their role.
- New staff and volunteers receive clear safeguarding responsibilities and behavioural expectations.
- Concerns about an adult's suitability or conduct are acted upon and referred externally where required.
If a Child Tells You Something
- Stay calm and listen carefully.
- Take the child seriously and reassure them that speaking up was the right thing to do.
- Do not promise secrecy or a particular outcome.
- Ask only open questions needed to understand immediate safety.
- Record the facts promptly, using the child's own words where possible.
- Report the concern immediately to the Welfare Officer or emergency services where necessary.
Allegations About Coaches, Staff or Volunteers
Any allegation that an adult working with children has harmed a child, may have committed an offence, behaved in a way that creates a safeguarding risk or may be unsuitable to work with children must be reported immediately.
The academy may restrict or suspend the adult's duties while advice is obtained. This is a neutral safeguarding measure and does not determine guilt. Information may be shared with the police, local authority, County FA, The FA or another safeguarding authority where required.
Photography, Video and Social Media
- Images and video are used only for legitimate academy purposes and in line with the consent recorded for the player.
- A parent or carer may withdraw optional media consent by contacting the academy.
- Images must not be accompanied by unnecessary personal information about a child.
- Coaches must use approved communication channels and maintain professional boundaries online.
- Parents and spectators must respect requests not to photograph or publish images of other children.
Bullying, Discrimination and Poor Practice
Bullying, harassment, abuse, discrimination, sexualised behaviour, humiliating coaching methods and retaliation against someone who raises a concern are not accepted. Reports may lead to protective measures, disciplinary action or an external referral.
Supervision, Collection and Transport
- Parents and carers remain responsible for safe arrival and collection unless a different written arrangement has been agreed.
- Children must not be left before the responsible coach is ready to receive them.
- Late collection should be reported to the coach as soon as possible.
- Coaches should avoid being alone with a child where practical and maintain observable professional boundaries.
- Transport by academy personnel requires prior agreement and appropriate safeguarding arrangements.
Information Sharing and Confidentiality
Safeguarding information is handled sensitively and shared only with people or organisations that need it to protect a child, manage risk or meet a legal obligation. Confidentiality cannot be guaranteed where a child may be at risk of harm.
